About this Project

According to Forbes, the e-Learning market will reach $325 billion by 2025. No wonder more and more edu startups rise here and there, and most of them have unique ideas, features, and capabilities. But it’s not enough to have a billion-dollar idea to build an e-learning platform. It’s rather a combination of brilliant ideas with a stable and reliable platform that turns a common project into a big-time one. Just like Coursera, Udemy, Khan Academy and other giants.

Edutube

My objective here is to design the UI and UX of the Edutube BD app for students. A learning/tutoring online platform for the students of Primary level to Graduation Level who are already enrolled into a course.

I will be relying on my design research methods that I learned to decide the experience strategy of the platform.

I started with some secondary research about Edutube and existing online educational platforms. Then I decided research targets for my primary research and I decided my research tools on the basis of analysing the research data I can use to craft the experience of the platform.

About Edutube

The educational sphere is being greatly transformed these days by the welcoming changes driven by smartphone technology. Edutube’s success in Bangladesh has impacted the educational process, making us innovative and more progressive in e-learning space.

Edutube has created a revolution in the field of e-learning. Edutube is BD’s first educational startup that has secured million dollar valuation, after getting funds in the initial rounds. Edutube’s success in Bangladesh has definitely disrupted the learning system. Apart from making the education process more engaging and interactive, it also assures providing a comprehensive standard of education with ease, effectiveness, and simplicity. The company provides educational content for school and college students and some important competitive exams like UAT, BCS, GMAT, and GRE etc.

Validating the problem

There is many reasons for young working professionals and students to choose Edutube Bangladesh. But to find a right course or hobbies it is always difficult. Downloading course in app and viewing offline was difficult always. Finding mentors who is professional and available as per schedule is most important thing and finding best courses and in a reasonable price is a huge concern according to the research conducted.

Objective

Edutube BD has already positioned them well in the school segment. With the resources they possess, it looks like the perfect time to enter into the college segment. Looking at the market situation in college learning apps. There are no major Apps that provide educational content for the existing student but, there are online courses which can be taken as a whole and there will be certificate provided after the successful completion. Edutube is looking for a tutoring/learning platform for the students who already enrolled into a college or university.

My objective here is to design the UI and UX of the Edutube’s learning app for all types of students. A learning/tutoring online platform for the students of all type who wants to enroll in a course.

My Design Process

I follow the product development life cycle for every product I design

Design Strategy > Research > Competitor Analysis > User Interviews > Personas > Empathy Mapping > User Journey Map > User Flow > Card Sorting > Information Architecture > Wire-framing > Visual Design > Usability Testing

The purpose I want to achieve from this research is to understand the user and constructing an experience strategy using the research analysis as a base. After analysing different qualitative and quantitative research tools. I chose observation, interview and persona as my tools.

User Interview

Crafting the right question is always the most important thing to do before taking an interview. So in order to get the maximum information from minimum questions, I prepared these following questions:

1 . What is the biggest problem that you face in online studies?

2. When do you start preparing for your exams?

3. Are you able to completely understand a subject?

4. Have you evert taken extra tuition for any subject?

5. Which is your favourite subject and why?

6. Which is your least favourite subject and why?

7. Have you ever enrolled for any online course?

8. What types of gadgets do you use?

9. Do you have access to high speed internet?

10. How much is your monthly expenditure?

These were the main questions that were asked to the respondents. Further questions were also asked for depending on the answer of the respondents.

Empathy Map

In order to analyse the results of interview. I created empathy maps of all my respondents. After looking at the empathy map I could draw the persona of my ideal user for whom I will craft the experience strategy.

Solutions

The following are few solutions and ideas that are crafted as a part of experience strategy:

• Other than option for enrolling to an entire course. There must be an option to subscribe individual papers as well.

• Suggestions must play an important role here as the students are not clear about lot of things, suggestions will be a great leap on user experience

• Students who study daily and students who only studies for the exams has to be given separate importance

• The contents must have an exam as well as long term point of view as well

• Revisions must be a main feature and the Edutube platform must serve as an advisor

User flows and wireframes

As this will be an app/browser based platform. So I ideated some UI concepts after plotting an information architecture. Where I can fit solutions in to the platform that can solve users’ problems and create a smooth user experience

Prototyping and Visual Design

With the product layout mapped out, I then created prototypes and ran some user tests. View project on Behance

By building complex user interface elements using smaller, reusable components I ensured that all of my user interface elements are consistent because they’re all built from the same simple components.

I also focused on atomic design and created small interface building blocks and then put these together to create progressively more complicated interface elements. Atomic design approach helped me to ensure consistency by combining elements at a granular level and then build up from those.
